“Fire and earth, held in a single form.”

Crafted in Jianyang, Fujian, this teacup reflects the region’s long-standing iron-body ceramic tradition. Made using local clay rich in iron content and finished with a natural mineral glaze, the surface develops its distinctive “crimson bloom” pattern during high-temperature firing at around 1300°C. This effect is not painted or applied, but formed through kiln transformation—where iron in the body and glaze reacts under heat to produce organic, radiating textures. Each piece carries slight variation, a direct result of this process and a defining feature of Jian ware.
