“Light shifts across the surface, tea settles within.”

Crafted in Jianyang, Fujian, this gaiwan draws from the legacy of Jian ware, known for its iron-rich clay and kiln-driven finishes. The surface displays a subtle “flowing light” effect (流光溢彩), where mineral glaze interacts with high-temperature firing to produce a quiet, shifting iridescence. This effect is not decorative in the applied sense, but emerges naturally in the kiln, making each piece slightly different. Rooted in a region historically associated with tea preparation, the form remains simple and functional, allowing the material and firing to speak without excess.<
