"Fire shapes clay. Ash paints the stars."

This cup honors a craft tradition from the Song Dynasty, which ruled from the year 960 to the year 1279. During that time, Jian Zhan tea bowls were prized by monks, scholars, and tea connoisseurs. The glaze was not painted. It formed naturally from wood ash and iron rich clay, fired at around 1300 degrees Celsius. In the kiln, the oil spot pattern, which is called You Di, emerges on its own. It is shaped by heat, minerals, and the air inside the kiln.

At the heart of this cup is an appreciation for imperfection, natural variation, and individuality. When you hold this cup, you hold a piece shaped by fire, chance, and tradition. Every sip is a quiet moment with a craft that has endured for centuries.
