"One colour goes in. Fire decides the rest."

Only six pieces available.

Jian Zhan bowls come from Jianyang, Fujian, one of the great ceramic traditions of the Song Dynasty, prized by monks and scholars for the tea ceremony.

This bowl is finished with a kiln transformation glaze, known in Chinese as yao bian. The colour that emerges is shaped by the temperature inside the kiln, the mineral content of the clay, and conditions no artisan can fully control. The result here is a deep, volcanic red with dark markings scattered across the surface. Each bowl that comes out of the kiln is different. This one is particularly striking.

The body is dense ceramic, weighty in the hand. Made in Jianyang, Fujian.
